| How
to Double Register a Cropout
(horse without a Paint parent)
WHAT IS DOUBLE REGISTRATION? Double registration can
occur when a cropout foal (a foal with QH or Thoroughbred
parents) is eligible for registration with either the American
Quarter Horse Association (AQHA) or Jockey Club (JC) and the
American Paint Horse Association. To register your cropout
foal, the following items must be submitted in their entirety:
Section
1Foal Information
- Complete the enclosed American Paint Horse Association
registration application. Information should be consistent
with the horseÕs AQHA or JC registration certificate. The
name issued at AQHA or JC should be listed as the first
name choice. Please be sure to list a second and third choice
in the event that the first name choice is not available.
A photocopy, both front and back showing complete
ownership record and markings, of the cropoutÕs AQHA or
JC registration certificate must be submitted.
Section
2Stallion Requirements
- BreederÕs
Certificate/SBRThe copy of the cropoutÕs registration
certificate will be used in lieu of a BreederÕs Certificate
and/or Stallion Breeding Report. When completing Section
2, BreederÕs Certificate, you need only to list the names
of the sire and dam. Stallion Breeding Report information
will be obtained directly from AQHA or JC, but the appropriate
filing fees will still apply. The filing fee is $10 per
report PLUS $4 to list the mare (Nonmembers: $20 per report
PLUS $8 per mare listed on the report). If the sire already
has a Stallion Breeding Report on file with APHA for the
appropriate breeding year, the filing fee will be $4 to
add the mare (Nonmembers: $8).
- ListingThe
sire must be "listed" with American Paint Horse Association
as an eligible sire. To list, the enclosed Stallion Listing
Card must be completed and signed by the recorded owner
of the sire at the time of breeding. A photocopy
of the stallionÕs AQHA or JC certificate of registration
must be sent to APHA (front and back, showing complete ownership
record). There is a one-time $75.00 fee (Nonmembers: $150)
to list the stallion. If the stallion has been previously
listed but ownership has changed, the new owner must submit
a new listing card and photocopy of the certificate
showing the ownership change; there is no additional charge.
- DNAAll
breeding stallions must have their bloodtype/DNA genotype
on file at a laboratory approved by the Association in accordance
with the procedures adopted by the Association. If you have
a Quarter Horse stallion whose bloodtype/DNA genetic type
is already on file at AQHA, we will place their results
on file at no charge to you. Simply notify us by letter
or telephone.
The Jockey Club requires, in order to release the bloodtyping
results on a Thoroughbred stallion, that the APHA submit
a written authorization letter from the recorded owner of
the stallion giving APHA permission to use the bloodtype
on file with Jockey Club. The authorization letter must
be sent to the Field Services Department at the American
Paint Horse Association. Upon receipt of the letter, we
will write the Jockey Club requesting a copy of the bloodtyping
results. Once the results are received by the APHA, they
will be placed on file at no charge to you.
Section
3Original Owner of Foal
- A photocopy of the damÕs AQHA or JC registration
certificate must be submitted, both front and back, showing
complete ownership record and markings. Per Rule RG-070
the original owner of the foal is the record owner of the
dam at the time of foaling. However, the current owner of
the cropout (as recorded on the AQHA or JC certificate),
can sign Section 3, Original Owner of Foal, on behalf of
the original owner.
Section
4Transfer of Foal
- Per Rule RG-070 if the current record owner of the cropout
is different than the record owner of the dam at the time
of foaling, a transfer report, along with a $15 transfer
fee (Nonmembers: $40), must accompany the application.
If the record owner of the dam at the time of foaling signed
Section 3, Original Owner of Foal, then Section 4, Transfer
of Foal, must be completed and signed by the record owner
of the dam at the time of foaling. If the current owner
of the cropout signed Section 3, on behalf of the original
owner, they can also complete and sign Section 4 on behalf
of the original owner. A separate transfer form, completed
in its entirety, can be attached.
- The owner of the dam at time of foaling, or the resultant
owner, must be a current member in the exact same name or
a nonmember fee will be charged. Example: Joint memberships
cannot be used for single ownerships and vice versa. If
a nonmember fee is paid instead of a membership fee, nonmember
fees will be charged for each transaction submitted in that
name during the membership period. It is recommended that
a membership be purchased in order for benefits of membership
to be received.
- The registration fee is based on the age of the horse
at the time the application is submitted and the postmark
date (postal meters are not acceptable for determining fees).
The age of the horse is computed by the calendar year starting
on January 1 of the year foaled.
- Parentage VerificationBeginning in 2000 all
horses resulting from the breeding of two Quarter Horses
or a Quarter Horse and a Thoroughbred or two Thoroughbreds
must be parentage verified using DNA genetic testing prior
to registration. If parentage verification has been completed
at either AQHA or JC, it may not be necessary to repeat
the testing.
- PhotographsFive photographs of the horse
must accompany the application: one direct front view, one
direct rear view, and a direct view of each side. One additional
direct side view (preferably the one with the most identifiable
markings) should be included to be placed on the completed
registration certificate. The image of the horse must be
no larger than 2 1/4" high x 3" wide in this photograph.
Standing approximately 20 feet from the horse should produce
the desired size. Please do not trim the photographs, this
will be done during processing, if necessary.
- Be sure to include good close-up photographs of the qualifying
area. The qualifying area must be a solid white spot exceeding
two inches with some underlying unpigmented (pink) skin,
which was present on the horse at the time of its birth.
(See the enclosed instruction sheet on taking photographs
of minimal white horses for more details.) If the horse
does not have sufficient white to be eligible for the Regular
Registry, it will be ineligible for registration.
