| How
to List Paint Stallions for Breeding
- If a stallion is registered in the Regular Registry or
Breeding Stock Registry, there is a $75 (Non-members:
$150) stallion listing fee due when the first stallion breeding
report is filed*. The fee is a one-time charge to list a
stallion as an eligible sire.
*NOTE: Stallion breeding reports are due on or before November
30 of the breeding year. The member rate for filing a stallion
breeding report is $10 for each report plus $4 for each
mare listed on the report (Paint, Quarter Horse or Thoroughbred).
The non-member filing fee is $20 for each report plus $8
for each mare listed on the report. If the stallion breeding
report is postmarked (postal meters are not acceptable)
after November 30 of the breeding year, a late fee of $25
(Non-members: $50) is also due.
- If a stallion is registered in the Appendix Registry and
has a certificate that was issued prior to May 31, 1985,
the certificate can be submitted for change to the Regular
Registry at any time; there is no charge for this service.
However, the stallion listing fee of $75 (Non-members:
$150) must still be paid when the first stallion breeding
report is filed. Refer to the section above for due date
and filing fees.
- If a stallion has an Appendix Certificate, is two years
old or older and was registered under the hardship clause,
please contact our Customer Service Department for the appropriate
affidavit to be completed and returned to APHA along with
the Appendix certificate.
- BLOODTYPING/DNA GENETIC TESTNG. Beginning with the calendar
year 1993, all breeding stallions must be bloodtyped/DNA
genetic tested. The owner or lessee of such stallion shall
at his/her own expense, file with the Association a written
report of the stallions bloodtype/DNA genetic test,
obtained from a laboratory approved by the Association and
in accordance with procedures adopted by the Association.
To request a DNA genetic test kit for your stallion, send
the $60 fee to the APHA Field Services Department along
with the registration name and number of your stallion.
Once a stallions bloodtype/DNA genetic test is filed
with the Association, it is not necessary to repeat such
filing annually, except as required by the Association.
If a stallions bloodtype/DNA genetic marker is already
on file with an APHA-approved laboratory, it would not be
required again if the owner of record gives APHA written
permission to obtain the bloodtype/DNA genetic testing results
from the appropriate laboratory.
Failure to meet stallion listing, bloodtyping/DNA genetic
testing, or stallion breeding report requirements may result
in possible disciplinary action (See Rule GR-060.A.).
- If you do not have a current membership with the Association
and wish to take advantage of member rates, you may purchase
a membership at this time. A membership is $25 and a junior
membership is $12.50. Membership rates will then apply to
this transaction and any others postmarked during the membership
period. Beginning January 1, 2000, memberships will consist
of a 12-month period beginning with the month of the purchase
(based on the postmark, postal meters not acceptable),
and expiring the last day of the subsequent 12th
month. Multiple year memberships are available. A three
year membership for $65, a five year for $100, a lifetime
membership for $300, and a lifetime junior membership for
$100.
