Introduction: The American Paint Horse Association is a breed registry located in Fort Worth, Texas. The Association performs the function of registration, record keeping, show management, sale scheduling, field services, racing coordination, publishing, public relations, information dissemination and administration. In addition, the Association fulfills its purpose of promoting the American Paint Horse through efficient service to members, directors and the general public.
The Special Events Department was created to promote and develop different programs and events for the association to meet the needs of its members’ wide array of interests. The Special Events Department includes a staff of approximately four that handle the following programs and events: Paint Preferred, Gelding Plus, Paint Alternative Competition, Buckle Patron Sponsorships, Colors of the West (Purina Mills) Arena entertainment, and the World Show Colors of the West Gift Show. The Special Events Department is hands on with sponsor fulfillment and relations and running the General Store, as well as the APHA-sponsored World Championship Paint Horse Show, which will be held June 22-July 5, 2008 at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth, TX.
Responsibilities: The Intern will work primarily in the Special Events Department and will also have the opportunity to work with individuals in marketing, Horse Show staff, and additional key departments in planning, advertising, and hosting special events during the show on and off the World Show grounds. The intern will assist with the Gift Show working with vendors and Gift Show staff to have a smooth, safe and successful show. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Assist with General Store
• Meeting with Buckle Patrons
• Assist with Kid’s Day
• Coordination of events during the show
Basic Requirements: Seeking an independent individual skilled in verbal and written communication, experience in communicating with VIP’s and working behind the scenes during fast paced events. This individual must be capable of taking and giving direction, accomplishing assigned tasks, and leading groups of volunteers.
Recommended Fields of Study: Animal Science or Equine Science preferred, with experience in event planning and management or any related major.
Duration of Internship: This internship will be from mid May to August 1. However, these dates may be modified to fit the intern’s needs.
Salary: $1,200 per month

Housing and Transportation: The intern is responsible for transportation, room and board. The APHA office is located in Northeast Fort Worth and there is no public transportation. The Intern must provide their own transportation. |
