FORT WORTH, Texas— John Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colo., was recently re-elected to his third term serving on the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) executive committee. He advanced to the office of vice president of the worldwide horse breed organization. Corbin’s re-election came during the association’s recent Annual Convention and Membership meeting in San Antonio, Texas.
APHA is one of the largest and fastest-growing horse breed organizations in the world, registering new horses at a rate of 40,000 per year. The association currently includes 100,000 members and has registered 900,000 horses in the past 44 years. Paint Horses have become popular because of their colorful coat patterns, athleticism, disposition, and intelligence.
Corbin joined six other longtime APHA members to make-up the newly-elected committee That governing body sets APHA policy and is responsible for the association’s activities and fiscal integrity.
Corbin has served the association at a regional and zone level for many years along with his duties on the executive committee. He has held several leadership offices for the Hi-Plains Paint Horse Club, Rocky Mountain Paint Horse Association and served as both the chairman and a committee member for APHA’s Zone 3. Always looking for new ways to serve the industry, he was previously a director of the Colorado Horse Council and is a member of the National Western Stock Show Judges Committee.
Corbin said he is excited about leading the successful association into the future.
He said he will devote his time with the association toward improvements in the Paint Preferred and Gelding Plus programs – two incentive programs designed to reward owners for the success of their horses in the show ring. Corbin will also help develop and promote the APHA Ride America® saddle-log program and regional trail rides for recreational riding enthusiasts.
Corbin and his wife, Joanne, own and operate Spruce Hill Paints in Colorado Springs, Colo. They specialize in breeding and selling registered Paint Horses. His three daughters grew up showing with the American Junior Paint Horse Association and continue to show their horses as amateur competitors.
Corbin joins an executive committee that includes President Richard Cox of Knightstown, Ind.; President-elect Carl Thurow of Wichita, Kan.; Senior Committee Member Linda Vance of Winlock, Wash.; Fifth Committee Member Dr. Travis Titlow of Lincoln, Calif.; Sixth Committee Member Scot Jackson of Stephenville, Texas; and Immediate Past President Carl Parker of Marriott-Slaterville, Utah.
