| APHA’s revamped Gelding Plus incentive program offers
big paybacks for talented American Paint Horses in 2007
FORT WORTH, TEXAS—The American Paint Horse Association (APHA)
recently introduced exciting changes to its Gelding Plus program,
which is designed to increase the value of registered Paint geldings.
Originally created as a futurity incentive, the program has changed
to instead promote aged geldings that are 4 years old and older as of
Jan. 1, 2007. Each of the 11 approved APHA Zone shows and three
international shows will offer $3,000 in added money throughout the
year, for an annual payout of $42,000.

“APHA is allowing each zone committee to tailor the incentive
payouts this year to one of the three formats that best fits their
individual event,” said APHA Paint Programs Coordinator Jessica
McDaniel. “Geldings are an important part of responsible breeding
practices, and we are excited to offer this special incentive program
to promote outstanding aged Paint performance athletes.”
The first event to implement the new Gelding Plus format was the
recent National Western Stock Show, which held Paint classes Jan. 8–
11 in Denver, Colo. The show paid out $1,000 each to geldings in
three divisions.
