FORT WORTH, TexasAre
you interested in a perfect fall getaway that
includes scenic landscapes, beautiful trails
and colorful sunsetsall from the back
of your treasured horse? If so, join the American
Paint Horse Association's (APHA) 2000 Fort Robinson
Trail Ride, September 4-9, in Crawford, Nebraska.
More than 130 riders from
18 states and New Zealand participated in the
1999 APHA-sponsored trail ride, located in the
heart of northwest Nebraska's beautiful Pine
Ridge. Fort Robinson State Park, Nebraska's
largest state park ,encompasses more than 22,000
acres.
"Recreational riding is one
of the most popular activities among Paint Horse
owners," said APHA Executive Secretary Ed Roberts.
"That is one of the reasons the APHA sponsors
an annual trail ride-to offer an event for members
to come together, spend time with new and old
friends, and enjoy their horses."
The ride officially begins
the evening of September 4, at which time participants
will be assigned rooms and treated to a hearty
dinner at the Fort Robinson Inn. During the
next four days, riders will head out on established
trails, as park personnel relate the historical
significance of the area. Scheduled events also
include evening activities such as a horsemanship
clinic, team penning and a steak cookout.
"Fort Rob," as it is referred
to locally, was an active military post from
1874 to 1948. The famous Buffalo Soldiers were
stationed there, and the great Sioux chief Crazy
Horse was killed at the fort. Also, the 1938
and 1940 Olympic Equestrian teams used the fort
as a training site.
Lodging, meals, stabling and park user fees total
$325 for APHA members, $350 for nonmembers. For
