Richard Cox of Knightstown, Ind., was re-elected to the executive
committee of the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) at
the organization's 2003 Annual Convention, held recently in
Milwaukee, Wisc.
Cox has been involved with American Paint Horses for 20
years, and his family has earned many prestigious world championship
titles with their horses at World Championship Paint Horse
shows.
This is the third consecutive year that Cox has been elected
to a leadership position on the APHA executive committee.
During Cox's most recent term on the executive committee,
APHA set a membership record, with nearly 107,000 people now
active in the organization. Participation in many APHA activities
and programs has also increased, including the World Championship
Paint Horse Show, held annually in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2003,
APHA logged a record 4,695 entries in that show, which included
1,800 horses over a 14-day period.
Since its formation in 1962, APHA has registered more than
743,000 horses in 43 nations around the world. APHA has been
registering new American Paint Horses at a rate of about 60,000
per year, making it one of the fastest-growing breed registries
in the world.
Cox joins an executive committee that includes Tom Elliott
of Benson, Ariz.;
Paul Reinbolt of Woodburn, Ky.; Carl Parker of Marriott-Slaterville,
Utah; Alice Singleton of Mount Vernon, Ark.; Carl Thurow of
