Tom Elliott of Benson, Ariz., advanced to president of the American
Paint Horse Association (APHA) at the organization's 2003 Annual
Convention, held recently in Milwaukee, Wisc.
Elliott has been breeding, selling and showing American
Paint Horses for more than 35 years.
This is the sixth consecutive year that he has been elected
to a leadership position on the APHA executive committee.
During Elliott's most recent term, APHA set a membership
record, with nearly 107,000 people now active in the organization.
Participation in many APHA activities and programs has also
increased, including the World Championship Paint Horse Show,
held annually in Fort Worth, Texas. In 2003, APHA logged a
record 4,695 entries in that show, which included 1,800 horses
over a 14-day period.
Since its formation in 1962, APHA has registered more than
743,000 horses in 43 nations around the world. APHA has been
registering new American Paint Horses at a rate of about 60,000
per year, making it one of the fastest-growing breed registries
in the world.
During his inaugural address at the APHA convention, Elliott
pledged to keep the organization moving forward through innovative
programs that enrich people's experiences with their horses
and increase the value of those horses.
"The American Paint Horse Association will continue
to grow strong and we will remain a leader in the horse industry,"
he said.
Elliott joins an executive committee that includes Paul Reinbolt
of Woodburn, Ky.; Carl Parker of Marriott-Slaterville, Utah;
Richard Cox of Knightstown, Ind.; Alice Singleton of Mount
Vernon, Ark.; Carl Thurow of Ulysses, Kan., and Forrest Nelson
of Meeker, Colo.
