| APHA
gives away $10,000 and Paint Horse yearling
at IFR
FORT WORTH, Texas-The American Paint Horse
Association (APHA) has awarded two members a
total of $10,000 and has given away a Paint
Horse yearling to one lucky couple at the International
Finals Rodeo (IFR) in Oklahoma City, Okla.
Through APHA's Paint Preferred program, P.J.
Spencer and Shawn Kreder, both of Tulsa, Okla.,
were paid $5,000 each by APHA for winning the
average in the categories in which they participated
during the IFR, which took place January 16-19.
Spencer received the payout by winning the
calf-roping average on his sorrel overo Paint
Horse, Skip A Long Leg.
Kreder earned his payout by winning the team-roping
average on his bay tobiano Paint Horse, Ima
Jack Too.
"This is the first Paint Horse I've ever
worked with, but I'm just real tickled with
him," Kreder said. "I've already won
$100,000 with him."
Through the Paint Preferred program at IFR,
money is awarded to Paint Horses based on their
overall average scores in timed events. These
events include calf roping, team roping, barrel
racing and steer wrestling.
In addition to the payouts, APHA gave away
a Paint Horse yearling named Six Years In The
Makin to Kelly and Diana Bowen of Weleetka,
Okla., through a random drawing. The winning
number was put on an IFR program, and the Bowens
bought that winning program.
"I gave my daughter the choice of ice
cream or buying a program, and she was beside
herself at the chance of winning a Paint Horse,"
Diana said. "It's the first Paint we've
ever owned, and we're looking forward to teaching
our daughter how to ride him."
The Bowens also plan to enter the horse in
competitions in the future.
