Nineteen American Paint Horses receive
awards from United States Dressage Federation

FORT WORTH, TEXAS—The United States Dressage Federation (USDF) recognized 19 talented American Paint Horses with 28 All-Breeds awards during its annual banquet, held on Dec. 3 at the Hilton Burbank Airport and Convention Center in Los Angeles, Calif.

Awards were given for outstanding performances in events governed by USDF and recognized by the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) and other breed organizations. More than 45 breeds are considered for USDF All-Breeds awards each year.

“It’s evident that the quality of dressage Paint Horses continues to improve as we see a continual increase in the number of Paint Horses recognized through USDF each year,” said Amy Foerster, APHA programs coordinator. “This speaks volumes of our breed and confirms its versatility.”

For an American Paint Horse to be eligible for the all-breeds awards, it must be registered with APHA and USDF, and the rider must be a member of both organizations.

The All-Breeds awards require that scores be earned at a minimum of four of the more than 750 U.S. Equestrian Federation/USDF-recognized competitions that were held throughout the country from Oct. 1, 2004, to Sept. 30, 2005. To be eligible for these awards, a minimum of eight scores must have been earned under four different judges. The median score must be 58 or higher. These requirements ensure that scores are representative of a horse’s overall performance.

An award is given for nearly every type and level of dressage, including: Training Level, First Level, Second Level, Third Level, Fourth Level, Prix St. Georges, Intermediate I, Intermediate II and Grand Prix.

“A USDF All-Breeds award is a prestigious, nationally recognized honor,” said Christine Walker, USDF’s senior coordinator of member services. “The horses that win these awards represent the best of their breed in the sport of dressage. The significance of this program for the American Paint Horse Association, as well as any participating registry, is to raise awareness of the accomplishments of horses of their specific breed in the sport of dressage.”
