Chris Cox to conduct special training seminar
at 2005 World Championship Paint Horse Show

FORT WORTH, Texas—Chris Cox, one of the nation’s leading horsemen and clinicians, will conduct a free educational seminar at 10 a.m. on July 2 during the World Championship Paint Horse Show in Fort Worth, Texas. Sponsored by APHA’s newest corporate partner, HorseCity.com, an on-line equine news service, the seminar will mark the mid-way point in the 14-day show, which takes place June 26–July 9.

During his demonstration, Cox will utilize a special Paint Horse, named Painted PJ, or “Painted City,” that will be given away on Dec. 30, through HorseCity.com’s annual free horse contest. Cox has been training the horse all year.

Those who attend the presentation will learn some of the basic techniques that Cox has used to successfully train horses.

Cox will show his training progress with “Painted City” through groundwork, riding and demonstrating flying lead changes.

“Having a recognizable trainer means that the horse we are awarding at the end of the year has some pretty impressive credentials and is already a nicely started horse for his new owner and his new job,” said Polly Martin of Morris Communications, which owns and operates HorseCity.com.

In addition to working with Painted City, Cox will work with a horse to show how to create a natural headset while keeping the horse from throwing its head.

The lucky winner of Painted City, which will be announced at the end of the year, will also receive training at a weeklong horsemanship clinic that will be held in March 2006 at Cox’s Outback Ranch in Mineral Wells, Texas.

More about Chris Cox and his training foundation
Cox’s close rapport with equines started at an early age when he learned to appreciate horses and distinguish their abilities. The 37-year-old has been influenced by both English and Western traditions. Through his experience, he has implemented a technique that can be applied universally. Cox shows horse people—including those of all levels and backgrounds—how to get results and develop a “a versatile and useful partnership between human and horse.”

“I think there is always a desire among people who want to be successful to learn as much as they can,” Cox said. “When I was a boy, I saw the way horses were ridden, and I didn’t want to necessarily ride my horse that way. I wanted to find a way that worked a little bit better for me.

“Horsemanship is not a destination, it’s a journey. It’s an ongoing process, and really, for me it’s a way of life.”
