APHA sponsors Paint Horse for annual
Horsecity.com horse giveaway

FORT WORTH, Texas—The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) and Horsecity.com, an on-line horse publication, have announced that they will be giving away a trained Paint Horse by the end of the year.

This beautiful American Paint Horse, now being trained by Chris Cox,
will be given away in a special contest sponsored by Horsecity.com.

The joint promotional effort—which is a continuation of Horsecity.com’s popular horse give-away promotion—is being undertaken to acquaint people with one of the largest horse breed organizations in the world and one of the premier sources for information on equine topics.

To enter the contest, participants simply need to log onto Horsecity.com/club and follow the prompts. Participants can register as many times as they like.

On Dec. 20, the one winner will become the proud new owner of Painted PJ, a 2-year-old black tobiano gelding, sired by Prince Barjet and out of Scottos Dream AQHA.

“This contest generates 500,000 to 700,000 entries each month, with yearly totals falling between 6 to 8.5 million,” said Ryan Dohrn, general manager and founder of Horsecity.com. “It’s phenomenal.”

In the past, Horsecity.com has offered monthly horse giveaways. During the past two years, however, the company has strived to offer trained horses as part of the prize package, said Horsecity.com’s Polly Martin. There are other giveaways each month too, with other items won by seven lucky individuals. APHA is awarding a coffee table book, The American Paint Horse: A Photographic Portrayal, to one of the seven winners each month for the duration of this year’s contest.

Painted PJ is being trained this year by leading horseman and clinician Chris Cox, of Mineral Wells, Texas. The person who wins Painted PJ will also receive a week of training with Cox.

“Given that we have a diverse and multi-disciplinary cross section of users, Chris will be providing a training program that produces a well-mannered, nicely started horse that will then be able to transition into any discipline,” Martin said.

“Having a recognizable trainer means that the horse we are awarding at the end of the year has some pretty impressive credentials and is already a nicely started horse for his new owner and his new job.”

APHA Executive Director Jim Kelley said that the popularity of black and white Paint Horses should mean plenty of attention for this giveaway.

“Horsecity.com’s free horse contest is a great way for us to promote the ownership of a Paint Horse,” Kelley said.

Painted PJ can be seen at APHA’s World Championship Paint Horse Show on July 2, during a special educational seminar to be presented by Cox.
