American Junior Paint Horse Association
offers beautiful filly as part of youth fund-raiser

FORT WORTH, TEXAS—The American Junior Paint Horse Association (AjPHA) is offering chances to win a beautiful sorrel tobiano yearling filly as part of its 2006 fund-raising efforts. The winner of Brigalenas Nu Flyer will be announced on the final day of APHA’s World Championship Paint Horse Show, set for June 25–July 8 at the Will Rogers Equestrian Center in Fort Worth, Texas.

For the third consecutive year, Floyd and Maryann Moore of 6-J Paint Horses in Huntsville, Texas, have donated a filly to support the association’s youth activities and scholarship program.

“The generosity of Floyd and Maryann Moore is greatly appreciated,” said Betsy Francis, APHA’s director of youth activities. “Having them donate a filly each year has been a great way to raise money for our programs. They continue to donate high-quality young horses with impeccable performance bloodlines.”

All proceeds from the fund-raiser go to support youth programs and scholarships. Donations for a chance to win the filly can be made on-line at ajpha.com. You can also get tickets for a $10 donation each at the World Show. Tickets can also be purchased from APHA’s regional clubs.

“I am glad to be part of this and will continue to do it for at least the next five years, and hopefully more,” Floyd Moore said. Moore said he hoped the association could raise a significant amount of money from the fund-raiser.

Brigalenas Nu Flyer was sired by Nu Flyer and is out of Colonelreys Brigalena—both of whom were bred by the Moores.

Nu Flyer, a 10-year-old sorrel tobiano, earned more than 500 APHA points in Amateur heading, heeling and steer stopping, and in Open heading, heeling, steer stopping, working cow horse and calf roping.

Moore said the stallion’s specialty was working cow horse.

Colonelreys Brigalena, an 8-year-old sorrel solid Paint-bred, was trained for cutting. The mare’s great grandsire is NCHA Hall of Fame stallion Peppy San Badger AQHA.

The filly is a descendant of the renowned stallion Delta Flyer, who was the foundation of the Moores’ Paint performance horse program.

“She really is a great filly,” Moore said. “And, she’s gentle as gold.”

Long-time members of the Paint community
Floyd and Maryann Moore currently have more than 250 horses at their 500-acre ranch in Huntsville.

They have raised American Paint Horses for more than 20 years for cutting, roping, reining and performance events. Their program is dedicated to Paints and backed by a proven record in APHA, National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA) and National Reining Horse Association competition.

In 1984, the Moores acquired Delta Flyer, who made his mark as a successful Paint cutting horse. Sired by Peppy San Badger AQHA and out of NCHA Hall of Fame inductee Delta, the stallion was the foundation of the Moores’ program.

Delta Flyer became an NCHA Futurity semi-finalist in 1984, and then the 1986 NCHA Super Stakes Open Champion. He also became the first of three Paint Horses to win the NCHA Open Super Stakes Championship.

Through the years, the Moores have continued their successful breeding program.

“I just keep trying to make them better,” Floyd said. “I like the color and raising performance horses that are as good or better than any colored horse or other breed. I’ve been striving to do it for the past 20 years. We have truly come up with a Delta line of breeding.”

The Moores have also been supportive of youth involved in the equine industry. Floyd has supported youth equine programs since 1955, when he volunteered time or money to help 4-H and Future Farmers of America youth. He has also donated his time at Texas county fairs for more than 40 years.

Now in the third year of offering a yearling filly to support the young members of APHA, the Moores continue the tradition.

“This is a good deal for the association and a great way of getting quality horses to different people,” Floyd said. “We hope someday that these young horses will come back and do something in the show ring.”

Floyd has also supported the association in other ways. At the 2000 World Show, he purchased the registration number 500,000 for a $10,000 donation to the APHA Foundation. Floyd used the horse name “Half Million” for the horse he registered under that number.
