The year-long contest required people who were interested in the horse to register online through the HorseCity.com Web site. Each month, winners were randomly selected for monthly prizes and the grand prize winner was selected Christmas Eve.
When Edwards learned of the news, through a message left by HorseCity.com on her voice mail, she said she couldn’t believe it.

“I told my husband to play the message again because I just could not believe that I had won,” said Edwards. “Every time I listened to the message, my jaw dropped.”
Nicknamed “Painted City,” the 3-year-old black and white tobiano by Prince Barjet and out of Scottos Dream (AQHA) was selected for the giveaway by well-known trainer and clinician Chris Cox of Mineral Wells, Texas. Horsecity.com chose Cox to train and promote a horse for the 2005 contest, and he suggested the Paint after the horse appeared on his televised training series.
Cox trained Painted City throughout 2005 as part of the give-away package, and appeared with the gelding in training demonstrations at venues such as APHA’s World Show in Fort Worth, Texas.
In addition to the horse, Edwards received training with the gelding in March at a special weeklong horsemanship clinic at Cox’s Outback Ranch in Mineral Wells.

During the clinic, Edwards quickly became acquainted with the gelding, which she has since taken home to Missouri. After allowing Painted City time to mature physically and progress in his training, she hopes to show him.
“I am thinking about Western pleasure or possibly gaming,” said Edwards. “I will just have to see what fits him so that he will enjoy riding as much as I do.”
Horsecity.com is currently finalizing details on the grand prize horse to be trained by Van Hargis and given away in the 2006 contest. For updates and to enter, visit horsecity.com/club or contact Ann Waters at ann.waters@horsecity.com, or call (877) 505-4344.
