2006 Judges Exam tests applicants’ abilities
Seventeen new judges added to APHA’s roster

FORT WORTH, TEXAS—Twenty-eight applicants from across the globe were recently invited to the American Paint Horse Association’s (APHA) 2006 Judges Exam in Fort Worth, Texas, to test for APHA judging credentials. Applicants began the session on Monday, April 24, at APHA headquarters, by taking the written portion of the exam, which evaluated their knowledge of the association’s official rule book.

The eighteen applicants who passed the written test moved on to the second part of the exam the following day, a “live” judging held at Will Rogers Memorial Center’s John Justin Arena. After judging horses supplied by APHA members, participants also judged classes presented in video demonstrations. At completion of the exam, applicants had judged the majority of classes that an APHA judge would see at a breed show.

Applicants returned to APHA headquarters the morning of April 26 to be interviewed by the APHA Judges Committee. After final decisions were made, 15 new judges were named, along with two international judges.

“We are excited about the opportunities these new judges will have with APHA,” said Candy Cain, APHA director of judges. “Each has demonstrated the professionalism and knowledge of the American Paint Horse that make them ideal to help preserve the integrity of our breed for the future.”
