FORT WORTH, Texas—Dr. Travis Titlow of Lincoln, Calif., was recently elected to serve on the American Paint Horse Association (APHA) executive committee. His election came during the association’s 2006 Annual Convention and Membership meeting in San Antonio, Texas.

APHA is one of the largest and fastest-growing horse breed organizations in the world, registering new horses at a rate of 40,000 per year. The association currently includes 100,000 members and total registrations of nearly 900,000 horses. Paint Horses are recognized around the world for their colorful coat patterns, athleticism, disposition, and intelligence.

Titlow will serve as the Fifth Committee Member with six other dedicated APHA members to make up the newly-elected committee. He will eventually move up through the Executive Committee to serve as President. This governing body sets APHA policy and is responsible for the association’s activities and fiscal integrity.

Titlow originally got involved with APHA in 1981 when he purchased his first Paint Horse, after a lifetime of involvement in the horse industry. He began breeding Paint Horses in 1984, and has since become one of the largest Paint Horse breeders in California. His breeding operation continues to produce quality Paint Horses, including two APHA Champion stallions.

While serving on the executive committee, Titlow said he will be dedicated to many projects, including genetic research. He brings a strong interest in science and a solid background in breeding Paint Horses to the committee, which will be helpful in the steps APHA is taking towards supporting genetic research.

Showing Paint Horses is a family affair for the Titlows. His wife, Lynn, and daughter, Marissa, both participate and have earned World and Reserve Championships, as well as multiple Honor Roll and state titles.

Titlow joins an executive committee that includes President Richard Cox of Knightstown, Ind.; President-Elect Carl Thurow of Wichita, Kan.; Vice President John Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Senior Committee Member Linda Vance of Winlock, Wash.; Sixth Committee Member Scot Jackson of Stephenville, Texas; and Immediate Past President Carl Parker of Marriott-Slaterville, Utah.
