The Executive Committee on which Shelly serves is the governing body that sets APHA policy and is responsible for the association’s activities and fiscal integrity.

Shelly followed his two sons’ lead into the horse show world after they began showing in 1983. Recently, one of his horses earned its seventh world championship, four with Shelly in the saddle. His involvement went from a supporting role to that of a competitor in 1990. He has since expanded his role through the APHA clubs, including becoming president of the Central Texas Paint Horse Club, serving on the Texas
State Coordinating Committee, becoming a national APHA director in 2003 and serving as chairman of APHA’s General Show and Contest Committee. He is also the chair of the APHA World Show Advisory
Committee as well as the APHA Texas Horse Show Advisory Committee.

“I want to ensure we have an integrated and comprehensive marketing
effort, effective two-way communications with our general membership, while
focusing on the growth of our Youth and Amateur programs,” said Shelly
about his focus for serving on the Executive Committee. Shelly continued, “The ultimate goal of our efforts is to enhance and grow the market for our Paint horses.”

He has served on the American Paint Horse Foundation Board of Directors for the last three years. The Foundation supports youth scholarships and therapeutic riding programs, promotes equine research and preserves the heritage of the American Paint Horse. Shelly also supports a local therapeutic riding organization, “Ride On Center for Kids (R.O.C.K),” in his hometown as a member of its advisory board.

Shelly retired from Solectron Texas in 1999 where he was the president. He previously worked for Texas Instruments from 1966-1996. He serves on many boards in his church and community where he applies his many years of industrial management experience. His degrees were earned from University of the Pacific and Stanford University. He has been married to JoAnna for 12 years and has two sons and five grandchildren.

Shelly serves on an executive committee that includes President Linda
Vance of Winlock, Wash.; President-Elect Dr. Travis Titlow of Lincoln,
Calif.; Vice-President Scot Jackson of Stephenville, Texas; Senior
Committee Member Gregg Reisinger of Eldora, Iowa, Fifth Committee
Member Mary Parrott of Ruston, La. and Immediate Past President John
Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colo.
