| Georgetown man elected to executive post
at American Paint Horse Association
FORT WORTH, TEXAS – Ron Shelly of Georgetown, Texas, was
recently elected to serve on the American Paint Horse
Association’s (APHA’s) Executive Committee. His election
came during the association’s recent 39th APHA Annual
Convention in Colorado Springs, Colo.

The Executive Committee on which Shelly serves is the
governing body that sets APHA policy and is
responsible for the association’s activities and
fiscal integrity.
Shelly followed his two sons’
lead into the horse show world after they began
showing in 1983. Recently, one of his horses earned its
seventh world championship, four with Shelly in the
saddle. His involvement went from a supporting role
to that of a competitor in 1990. He has since
expanded his role through the APHA clubs, including
becoming president of the Central Texas Paint Horse
Club, serving on the Texas State Coordinating
Committee, becoming a national APHA director in 2003
and serving as chairman of APHA’s General Show and
Contest Committee. He is also the chair of the APHA
World Show Advisory Committee as well as the APHA
Texas Horse Show Advisory Committee.
“I want to
ensure we have an integrated and comprehensive marketing
effort, effective two-way communications with our
general membership, while focusing on the growth of
our Youth and Amateur programs,” said Shelly about
his focus for serving on the Executive Committee. Shelly
continued, “The ultimate goal of our efforts is to
enhance and grow the market for our Paint horses.”
He has served on the American Paint Horse Foundation
Board of Directors for the last three years. The
Foundation supports youth scholarships and therapeutic
riding programs, promotes equine research and preserves
the heritage of the American Paint Horse. Shelly also
supports a local therapeutic riding organization, “Ride
On Center for Kids (R.O.C.K),” in his hometown as a
member of its advisory board.
Shelly retired from
Solectron Texas in 1999 where he was the president. He
previously worked for Texas Instruments from 1966-1996.
He serves on many boards in his church and community
where he applies his many years of industrial management
experience. His degrees were earned from University of
the Pacific and Stanford University. He has been married
to JoAnna for 12 years and has two sons and five
grandchildren.
Shelly serves on an executive
committee that includes President Linda Vance of
Winlock, Wash.; President-Elect Dr. Travis Titlow of
Lincoln, Calif.; Vice-President Scot Jackson of
Stephenville, Texas; Senior Committee Member Gregg
Reisinger of Eldora, Iowa, Fifth Committee Member
Mary Parrott of Ruston, La. and Immediate Past President
John Corbin of Colorado Springs, Colo.
